Of
18 School Districts in McLennan County, Moody ISD has the third highest tax
rate. The first inclination is to assume there is a relation between the tax
base and the amount and value of taxable property, as the cause for the higher
tax rate. However, FASTEXAS is a project through the State Comptroller which did an extensive
analysis of expenditures in relation to performance. Moody ISD is rated two
stars. Gholson ISD, the district with the lowest tax rate, is one of 46
districts in the state with a 5 star rating.
In
short, taxpayers are not getting much bang for their buck.
The
tax rate alone, even in light of the FASTEXAS analysis, is only part of the
story. China Spring ISD has a higher tax rate, but also achieved a five star
rating. If Moody ISD were producing students with high academic achievement, I
would only have half a platform. Instead, Texas Education Agency lists Moody
High School as Academically Unacceptable.
